Park University faculty recognized at luncheon

In its effort to recognize and reward faculty contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning, Park University's Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning hosted its third annual Faculty Recognition Luncheon on April 16. The luncheon highlighted the accomplishments and milestones of outstanding full-time and part-time faculty at Park.

The keynote speaker was Brian Smentkowski, Ph.D., associate professor of political science at Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, and a National Carnegie Scholar. Highlighting the luncheon was the announcement of two new awards--the Distinguished Faculty Service Award, given to a faculty member who has gone above and beyond to assist students and in their service to the University, and the Outstanding Department Chair Award, given to recognize and honor the diligent work of department chairs.

Ann Wentz, Ph.D., former associate professor of education, received the Distinguished Faculty Service Award, and Jane Wood, Ph.D., chair of the English Department and associate professor of English, received the Outstanding Department Chair Award.

In addition, 16 faculty were also recognized as "outstanding faculty" or "outstanding part-time faculty." They are:

Park University leadership awards presented at banquet

The Park University Office of Student Life hosted the annual Dr. Doris Howell Leadership Awards Banquet on April 16. Kay Barnes, Park distinguished professor for public leadership was the keynote speaker, and Kathy Dodd, a member of Park's Board of Trustees, served as the event's emcee. Dodd is also vice chair of the Board's Student Services Committee.

The banquet was highlighted by the announcement of the following awards and the respective winners:

-  Newcomer of the Year -- Megan Wescoat, conference and events specialist, and Dearing Hall resident director
-  Park Family Award -- Steve Hook, public safety officer
-  Club Advisor of the Year -- J.C. Stoner, residence life coordinator (advisor to Residence Hall Council and Campus Activities Board)
-  Student Club of the Year (small clubs) -- Political Science Club
-  Student Club of the Year (large clubs) -- World Student Union
-  Program of the Year -- World Student Union's International Dinner
-  Community Service Program of the Year - Alpha Phi Omega's "Have a Heart" Clothing Drive

The Park Student Government Association announced its "Senator of the Year"--Amiran Gelashvili, a sophomore majoring in international business. The PSGA also recognized the following students with "Outstanding Individual Student Leadership Awards": Gelashvili, Steven Allen, Adrienne Barr, Quinn Bixler, Simona Cibotaru, Gregory Crainshaw, Danny Cunningham, Robby Dingman, Dani Fackrell, Brett Ferguson, Beth Guy, Charif Hamidi, Rachel Landers, Lillian Madeje, Jessica Moody, Johnna O'Shields, Rebekah Rose, Kinuko Sato, Ivy Wambui and Sara Wingred.

In addition, nominees for a variety of awards that will be presented at the Honors Convocation on Wednesday, March 23, at 7 p.m., in the Breckon Sports Center, were announced, including the "Parkite Award," which is given to one female and one male graduating senior who best exemplify the ideals of the University.
