Park University MBA student, Salam Lazkani, has been awarded a highly competitive full-time internship at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Lazkani's internship with the United Nations Secretariat, Human Resources Division, is for eight weeks during the fall 2007 semester. Lazkani was chosen from among thousands of applicants for this prestigious internship. While at the UN, he will have the opportunity to work closely with UN staffers and learn more about major international issues. According to the United Nations website, the objective of the internship program is threefold: to provide a framework by which graduate and post-graduate students from diverse academic backgrounds may be assigned to United nations offices where their educational experience can be enhanced through practical work assignments; to expose them to the work of the United nations; and to provide United Nations offices with the assistance of highly qualified students specialized in various professional fields.
At Park University, Lazkani is president of the Model United Nations club, through which he participated in the American and National Model United Nations last year. He also served as a volunteer at the 2007 Midwest Model United Nations. In June, he served as a facilitator for the People to People Future Leaders Summit in International Diplomacy in New York and Washington, D.C. Other leadership positions he holds at Park include treasurer of the World Student Union, president of Global Future, and board member of the People to People International chapter. In the spring of 2007, Lazkani served as a panelist on the Great Decisions Forum on the Middle East held at Park University. Lazkani is a native of Syria.
