For the first time in Park University history, a graduating student, Ergys Prenika (pictured right), had the distinct opportunity to present the Kansas City area commencement address on May 7 to his fellow students, as well as to the administration, faculty, staff, trustees, family and friends.
Prenika spoke to his fellow graduates about his wonderful experiences and opportunities he has had as an international student studying in the United States. He also encouraged each person to learn from their previous challenges and to use these experiences for opportunities that lie ahead with a "can do attitude" and to always remember that "after the rain the sun will always shine."
Prenika arrived in the Kansas City area in January 2001 as an exchange student from Tirana, Albania and attended Bishop Miege High School. After graduating in May 2001 with honors and 4.0 grade point average, he began researching for a local university that would fit his academic inspirations for international business. In September 2001, he enrolled at Park University, and he graduated with dual bachelor's degrees in international business and finance at the commencement ceremony. Prenika is currently an intern production manager for The Roasterie, inc., a coffee company based in Kansas City.
During the ceremony, Park University President Beverley Byers-Pevitts, Ph.D., conferred 73 graduate degrees and 309 undergraduate degrees to students.
