A 14-year-old student at Park University's Youth Conservatory of Music will be one of four featured pianists at National Public Radio's "From the Top" performance on Tuesday, July 15, 7:30 p.m., at the Lied Center on the campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

Alan Shi, who studies under Marina Sultanova, adjunct instructor of piano at Park, is among the musicians featured at the event presented by Kansas Public Radio and Park University. Shi, who lives with his family in Lawrence, received second place for the state of Missouri in the Music Teachers National Association's Baldwin Junior Piano Competition, and he attended the International Institute for Young Musicians in 2006.

"From the Top" is NPR's hit showcase for America's best young classical musicians and is hosted by acclaimed concert pianist Christopher O'Riley. The special all-piano concert will feature performances by O'Riley and young pianists who have studied at the International Institute for Young Musicians. Also, the show will highlight the musicians' lives as regular teens through interviews and sketches.

In addition to Shi, the program will feature Sean Yeh, 16, Libertyville, Ill.; Dominic Cheli, 15, St. Charles, Mo.; and Anna Han, 12, Chandler, Ariz.

Park University has partnered with KPR as the title sponsor of "From the Top," a natural fit because of its acclaimed
International Center for Music, which includes Van Cliburn-winning Stanislav Ioudenitch on its faculty, its Youth Conservatory of Music and its music-education programs.

Others sponsors are KU's Department of Music and Dance; Mary Nestor of Topeka; George and Cynthia Norton of Lawrence; and Sean Williams of Lawrence.

Tickets for the show are on sale at the Lied Center box office, (785) 864-2787, or Online at
http://lied.ku.edu. "From the Top" can be heard on KPR on Sundays from 9 to 10 a.m., as well as on more than 200 radio stations coast-to-coast and Online at http://fromthetop.npr.org. KPR can be heard in the Kansas City area on KANU 91.5 FM. The concert will air on Nov. 9.
