President, Park University
I would like to publicly extend my congratulations to the top-ranked Park University men's volleyball team on winning the 2008 NAIA National Invitational Tournament on Saturday night at Breckon Sports Center on the Parkville Campus. The Pirates defeated second-ranked California Baptist University in three games, 31-29, 30-10, 30-17, giving Park its second national title - the first coming in 2003. The Pirates finished the year with a sparkling 29-1 record.

Congratulations also to Park head coach Cory Frederick, who was named the NAIA Coach of the Year. The victory in Saturday's game gives Frederick a career record of 102-16 in his four years at Park. Pirates J.P. da Silva, senior, and Henry Uribe, junior, were named to the All-Tournament Team, with da Silva being selected tournament MVP. In addition, the Pirates' Ryan Stafford, senior, was named the "tournament sportsman."

Finally, a special "thank you" to the Park University students, faculty, staff and community members who attended the tournament games and whose thunderous cheers helped to bring home the championship.
