With the belief that music can build valuable relationships between students and faculty in the United States and Europe, two Missouri schools, Park University and Truman State University, are collaborating to bring together three schools of music to establish a new International Music Studies program, the Festival Musicale Della Toscana held July 31-August 13, 2005 in Montaione, Italy.

The Festival Musicale Della Toscana will provide music students of all ages an opportunity to perfect their art and expand their artistic expression through the study of music, and to gain new experiences in performance and cultural exchange.

Alberto Bologni, professor of Violin at the Lucca Academy of Music in Italy; Gregory Sandomirsky, violin faculty at Park University and associate concertmaster of the Kansas City Symphony; and Sam McClure, professor of Violin/Viola and director of Orchestras at Truman State University are the key people behind the festival.

The festival will provide each student with one to two private lessons per week, working with a variety of festival faculty members. Daily activities will also include chamber music rehearsals and coaching, and string orchestra rehearsals. Each festival participant will also have the opportunity to perform solo literature on festival evening recitals.

Accompaniment services will be provided for each student for rehearsals and performances. Festival participants will also attend concerts performed by the festival faculty.

In addition, students will have the opportunity during the festival to participate in three faculty-led excursions to explore the history and culture of Florence, Siena and Lucca and attend a regional opera production held in Tuscany during the festival. Recreational opportunities include hiking, swimming and additional sightseeing trips.

The festival fee is $1,550 (to be paid by May 1, 2005), which includes instruction/accompanying services, housing and meals. Insurance is an additional $30. Roundtrip airfare is not included in the festival fee.

Participants may also apply for one credit hour from Park University or Truman State for approximately $200. Scholarships for up to $500 are also available in the U.S.

For application materials, contact Robert Pevitts, Park University, at robert.pevitts@park.edu, or Sam McClure, Truman State University, at smcclure@truman.edu.

The deadline for application is May 1, 2005.
