The Philharmonia of Greater Kansas City Announces Free Family Concert

The Philharmonia of Greater Kansas City will present its annual free family concert on Sunday, Mar. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the Park University campus in Parkville, Mo.

Music Director and Conductor Andrés Franco has prepared a short program of music for children of all ages. The concert is free and open to the public.

The program will feature a performance of Copeland's moving "Lincoln Portrait" narrated by Park University President Beverley Byers-Pevitts, Ph.D., and Robert Pevitts, Ph.D., executive director for the Youth Conservatory for Music and International Center for Music. Other performance pieces will include the Three Dance Episodes from "On the Town" by Bernstein, and the "Invierno Porteno" from "Estaciones Portenas" by Piazzolla featuring Maestro Andrés Franco on piano and choreography by The Kansas City School of Ballet. The orchestra will also perform the Kansas City premiere of the fiery "Mosaico Mexicano" by Rodriquez. The concert will conclude with Sousa's "Hands Across the Sea" being conducted by children drawn from the audience.
