Bach's Clavier-Übung-meaning keyboard practice-and he is doing it again beginning this fall. On Sunday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. in the Park University Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel, Corrao will perform the first three partitas from Part One of Clavier-Übung. Volume I contains the six partitas for keyboard, which take the suite form of the day to the extreme of sophistication and virtuosity. Volume II contains two works-the French Overture and Italian Concerto-that imitate the two major orchestral forms of Bach's day. Volume III, the German Organ Mass, consists of a series of chorale preludes on texts pertaining to the Lutheran Catechism. Part Four is devoted to one work - the towering Goldberg Variations. The second concert will be April 22, 2007, and Corrao will perform partitas four through six. Corrao is in his 24th year at Park University. He received his training at The Clevelend Institute of Music with Ruth Edwards (piano) and Doris Ornstein (harpsichord). He has also coached with Kenneth Cooper and Lisa Goode Crawford on harpsichord ands Richard Cass on piano. Corrao has also been an Artist-Fellow at the Bach Aria Festival and Institute at SUNY Stony Brook, New York. Active as both a performer and composer, he has appeared as a recitalist and chamber musician throughout the Midwest and in New York City. His performance credits include collaborations with members of the Cleveland Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Kansas City Symphony, as well as with flutist Ronda Benson Ford and pianist Tim Hays. Corrao has also composed chamber and orchestral works including a Barcarola Notturna for internationally-acclaimed pianist Aldo Mancinelli. Three of his choral compositions, Watchman, Tell Us of the Night, Now the green blade riseth, and I want to walk as a child of the light were published by Amber Waves Music. |
