Prior to the Poland and Germany opening round 2006 World Cup soccer match on Wednesday, June 14, Park University will explore the historical rivalry between the two countries. Jerzy Hauptmann, professor emeritus of political science and public administration at Park, will offer his personal reflections about the rivalry between Poland and Germany. Fluent in both Polish and German, Hauptmann served in the underground Polish Home Army during World War II and spent time in a Nazi prisoner of war camp. The lecture will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by the match at 2 p.m. in the McCoy Meetin' House on the University's Parkville campus. The event is hosted by Park's International Center for Civic Engagement and is open to the public. Refreshments with be served.
