Students from Park University's International Center for Music will be featured in the ICM's Student Showcase Concert on Saturday, Dec. 8, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the University's Parkville Campus. Admission to the concert, a part of the ICMs 2012-13 Concert Series, is free.
The concert, which will highlight the University's exceptionally gifted artists, will also include performances from ICM graduates and former students of Park's Youth Conservatory for Music. Scheduled to perform in the concert are:
Maria Ioudenitch, violin, 16, Overland Park, Kan. (former YCM student and daughter of Stanislav Ioudenitch, associate professor of music and winner of the 2001 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition) -- "Violin Concerto No. 1, Op. 6," by Niccolo Paganini (accompanied by pianist Lolita Lisovskaya-Sayevich, the ICM's director of collaborative piano)
Mansur Kadirov, cello, senior applied music/strings major, Tashkent, Uzbekistan -- "Symphony Concerto in E Minor, Op. 125," by Sergei Prokofiev (accompanied by Lisovskaya-Sayevich)
Erin Hales, piano, 2011 graduate and current graduate certificate student in piano performance, Fountain Hills, Ariz. -- "The Well-Tempered Clavier," by Johann Sebastian Bach, and "The Art of the Fugue," by Bach
Cristian Fatu, violin, 2008 graduate certificate and 2010 Master of Music graduate, Parkville, Mo. (originally from Bucharest, Romania) -- "Violin Sonata No. 2 in D Major, Op. 94," by Prokofiev (accompanied by Lisovskaya-Sayevich)
Dana Rath, cello, 13, Lawrence, Kan. (former YCM student) -- "Cello Suite No. 3 in C Major," by Bach
Artem Kuznetsov, piano, senior applied music/piano major, Balashov, Russia -- "Ballade No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 23," by Frederic Chopin
David Radzynski, violin, graduate student in violin performance and adjunct instructor of music, Columbus, Ohio -- "Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano," by Cesar Franck (accompanied by Lisovskaya-Sayevich)
Yuntian Liu, piano, 2011 Master of Music graduate and current graduate certificate student in piano performance, Guangzhou, China -- "Sonetto 123 del Petrarca (Petrarch's Sonnet 123)," by Franz Liszt, and "Grandes Ιtudes de Paganini, S 141, No. 6 in A Minor," by Paganini and Liszt
Park's 2012-13 concert season continues on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, starting at 3 p.m. with the International Center for Music's Faculty Chamber Music Concert. The concert, billed as an evening of romantic chamber music to include Strauss' "Sonata for Violin and Piano" and Brahms' "Piano Quintet," will feature the husband/wife duo of Ben Sayevich, violin (and Park professor of music), and Lolita Lisovskaya-Sayevich, piano, as well as ICM students and special guests.
Additional concerts scheduled in 2013, all held in Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel, are:
Sunday, Feb. 10, 3 p.m. -- "A Collage of Klezmer Music and Classical," featuring clarinetist and president of the Jerusalem Academy of Music, Ilan Shul, and pianist Mulya Sajevitch. Selections to include Brahms' "Clarinet Quintet" with ICM faculty and students.
Saturday, March 2, 7:30 p.m. -- Dang Thai Son Piano Recital. He is a Vietnamese-Canadian piano virtuoso and gold medalist at the 1980 Chopin Piano Competition.
Saturday, March 30, 7:30 p.m. -- Daniel Veis Cello Recital. Veis, visiting assistant professor of music at Park, is widely recognized as the finest cellist from the Czech Republic. He won first prize at the 1976 Prague Spring International Competition and the silver medal at the prestigious 1978 Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow. Veis will be accompanied in the concert by Lisovskaya-Sayevich.
Saturday, April 27, 7:30 p.m. -- ICM Student Showcase Concert
The International Center for Music at Park University was established to foster the exchange of master teacher/performers, renowned young musicians and programs from countries across the globe. The education of emerging musicians is at the philosophical core of the Center's mission and the quality of that training crucial to great artistry.
