Park University to Celebrate Veterans Day with Week of Activities

Park University's Department of Military and Veteran Student Services, home of the Park Warrior Center, will celebrate Veterans Day with a week full of activities open to the community, Monday, Nov. 12, through Thursday, Nov. 15.

A 5K run/walk through the University's Parkville Campus will kick off the events beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12. The event cost is $10, with proceeds benefitting the Student Veterans Week Organization. Prizes will be awarded to the male and female winners of each age category, which includes 17 and younger, 18-25, 26-35 and 35 and older. A showing of the movie "Black Hawk Down" will be on Tuesday, Nov. 14, beginning at 7 p.m., in the Barbara and Jenkin David Theater inside Alumni Hall on the Parkville Campus. Admission is free.

Beginning at 9:11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, volunteers will read a list of names of those killed in action in Afghanistan. A Veteran Resource Fair that afternoon will conclude the week's events from noon to 2 p.m. on the first floor of Thompson Commons. A luncheon will be provided in the Park Warrior Center for all veterans and current military students.
