NEWS RELEASE

The artwork of Park University adjunct instructor Andrea K. Lee, Ph.D., will be on display at the Campanella Gallery on the University's Parkville Campus beginning Monday, Jan. 30, through Friday, March 16. Lee's exhibit, "Weaving Life's Remnants: Mixed Media Paintings by Andrea K. Lee," focuses on putting the pieces of one's life back together after loss, failure or disappointment.

Lee, who teaches art history and introductory drawing classes at Park, has worked in the field of visual arts for 24 years. As an artist, her professional accomplishments include more than 30 national and regional art exhibitions and several artist-in-residencies. Lee's works can be found in numerous private art collections in the United States. She has received more than 20 fellowships and awards for her professional accomplishments and visual art endeavors. Lee's mixed media pieces often combine elements of paper, fabric and other materials with acrylic paint and traditional art media.

"In earlier works, I hoped to evoke a narrative that honors individual women whose stories may otherwise be forgotten," Lee said. "Using feminine textiles, primarily women's dresses, the pieces serve as narratives for personal and collective lives of historical and contemporary women. Today, I continue to work with dresses, fabric and textiles as I explore themes of loss and recovery."

Lee earned her doctoral and master's degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and her bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas.

The Campanella Gallery is located in the McAfee Memorial Library in Park’s underground Mabee Learning Center, which can be entered through Millsap Foyer. Admission is free. Hours are 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and 4 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
