Seven students from the Ben Sayevich Violin Studio at Park University's International Center of Music will perform a concert on Saturday, Feb. 13. The performance is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel, located on the University's Parkville Campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Students performing range in ages from 14 to 28-years-old. They are Ji-Yeon Lee, 16, of Lawrence, Kan. (accompanied by Jon-Kyung Lee on piano), performing Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E, Allegro Molto Appasionato; Shokhrukh Sadikov, 22, of Tashkent, Uzbekistan (with Lolita Sayevich on piano), performing William Walton's Viola Concerto, Andante Comodo; Michael Winer, 27, of Boston (with Victoria Fatu-Martirosyan on piano), performing Claude Debussy's Violin and Piano Sonata in G, Allegro Vivo; Maria Ioudenitch, 14, of Overland Park, Kan. (with Lolita Sayevich on piano), performing E. Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole, Intermezzo & Andante.
Also performing are Ekaterina Zykova, 28, of Moscow (with Maria Protodyakonova and Lolita Sayevich on piano), performing Maurice Ravel's Violin and Piano Sonata, Allegretto, Ernest Bloch's Baal Shem Suite, Nigun, and William Kroll's Banjo & Fiddle; Anastasia Yudenich, 21, of Tashkent, Uzbekistan (with Erin Hales on piano), performing Henri Vieuxtemps' Violin Concerto No. 4, Ascherzo Vivace & Allegro Marziale; and Christian Fatu, 26, of Bucharest, Romania (with Victoria Fatu-Martirosyan on piano), performing Dmitry Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1, Nocturne & Scherzo.
Ben Sayevich, who teaches at the ICM and Park's Youth Conservatory of Music, has established himself as one of the most distinguished violinists and teachers of his generation. The Lithuanian-Israeli violinist also is a founding member of the University's resident Quartet Accorda, which began in the 1990s.
