An exhibit featuring iron sculpture and large drawings by Michael Davidson Wickerson will open Monday, Oct. 26, at Park University’s Campanella Gallery.
The exhibit, "Cupola Cart: Casting Iron," will run through Wednesday, Nov. 25. The artist reception is set for Sunday, Nov. 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the gallery, located on the University's Parkville Campus.
Wickerson, associate professor and chair of the sculpture department at the Kansas City Art Institute, is a Canadian artist working in Kansas City. He has exhibited throughout North America since 1994 and displayed artworks in Holland, England, Poland and Bulgaria since 2002. He has a residency scheduled for 2010 in Orońsko, Poland.
In 2005, Wickerson’s installation, "This Equipment Belongs to the Earth," was displayed at the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center in Kansas City, and his aluminum casting "House of the Sun" was recognized in Spaces magazine in the spring 2006.
Wickerson has a master's degree in fine arts from York University in Toronto and a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Waterloo (Ontario). He joined the Art Institute as assistant professor of sculpture in 2001.
The Campanella Gallery is located in the McAfee Memorial Library in Park's underground Mabee Learning Center, which can be entered through Millsap Foyer. Park University is located at 8700 N.W. River Park Drive in Parkville, north of downtown Kansas City, Mo., on Highway 9.
The Gallery is open 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 4 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
