Park student attends commencement ceremony at Randolph AFB despite accident
by Angelique Trent, adjunct instructor of English, Randolph AFB Campus Center

According to the 2008 edition of the Digest of Education Statistics, 1.5 million Americans earned a bachelor's degree during the 2007-08 academic year. Every year, thousands of college graduates choose not to walk the stage for one reason or another. Some do not want to sit through a long ceremony, while others may not like the brief moment in the spotlight.

Mark Lebedzinski

After an incident left Mark Lebedzinski's jaw broken in two places just six days before he was slated to attend the Park University commencement ceremony for Randolph Air Force Base (Texas) Campus Center graduates on June 27, no one expected him to walk the stage. In fact, Lebedzinski admits that he planned on staying home after going into surgery a few days after the incident. But, two days after he was released from the hospital, Lebedzinski woke up that Saturday morning and decided he wasn't going to let anything stop him from celebrating what he had worked so hard to achieve.

Park In The News

Angie Peterson
Angie Peterson
Angie Peterson, assistant director of
international education and study abroad, will appear on the Thursday, Oct. 8, episode of KCPT's (Kansas City Public Television) show, "Check Please!" The taped show will air at 8 p.m. Peterson is one of three reviewers and will provide her opinion on a trio of Kansas City restaurants, U-Gene’s Deli and Pizza, Blanc Burgers and Bottles, and Blue Koi.

Ingram's, a Kansas City business magazine, ranked Park University as the top private college/university in Missouri and Kansas in its September issue. The ranking was based on undergraduate enrollment from the fall of 2008 and includes additional statistical information, including graduate enrollment, undergraduate and graduate tuition rates, number of full-time faculty, student-to-teacher ratio, housing costs per semester, annual operating budget and endowment funds.

October is National Dental Hygiene Month

Once a month in the Imprint Express,
Pirate Fitness will provide a "health observance tip of the month." October is National Dental Hygiene Month.

The hectic pace of today's adult lifestyle often leaves little time for the daily oral health care routine needed to prevent cavities and periodontal disease. This is unfortunate since periodontal disease is the most common cause of tooth loss in adults. An estimated 75 percent of Americans reportedly have some form of periodontal disease. Early detection of periodontal disease reduces the risk of permanent damage to teeth and gums and can prevent more extensive and costly treatment in later years. Regular professional visits, every six months or as scheduled by your dental hygienist, will help you learn more about proper care for your teeth and gums. Regular professional visits are important because gingivitis, the early stage of periodontal disease, is usually painless and you may not be able to detect it on your own. For more information, visit

Green tip of the day

According to the Clean Air Council, packaging accounts for almost one-third of the waste generated in the United States. Reduce your trash footprint by bringing your own reusable container to the coffee shop or cafe. When shopping, buy in bulk, opt for products with minimal packaging and bring reusable shopping bags.
