Awards Presented To Parkville Campus Leaders At Banquet

The Park Student Government Association and the Office of Student Life co-hosted the 14th annual Dr. Doris A. Howell Leadership Awards Banquet on April 15 on the Parkville Campus. The event celebrates the leadership achievements of Park students, faculty and staff during the academic year. The banquet featured the event's namesake as Howell, a 1944 Park graduate, was the keynote speaker.

Following are the awards presented during the evening:

• Club -- Ballroom Dance Club

Dr. Doris Howell Leadership Awards
Park Family Award -- This award recognizes a Park staff or faculty member who embodies the University's "family-like" culture in his/her interaction with students and fellow staff/faculty.

Emerging Leader of the Year Award -- Awarded to the freshman or transfer student who has involved himself/herself in student life to the fullest and has sought out and accepted leadership responsibilities in an effort to improve the co-curricular life of all students.

Student Club Adviser of the Year Award -- Recognizes the staff/faculty member who has provided outstanding efforts in guiding and advising student club leaders.
Linda Vestal, assistant director of University Mail Services, for advising the Association of American University Women

Green Initiative of the Year Award -- Awarded to a Park University initiative that best exemplifies dedication to the University's climate control commitment.
• Mid-America Regional Council Solid Waste Management District and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources grant of $30,330 to the University to begin recycling at the Parkville and Downtown Kansas City, Mo., campus centers.

Program of the Year Award -- Awarded to the student club that has contributed to the Park University community through the planning and implementation of an outstanding program for educational and/or entertainment purposes.
• Criminal Justice Club's One Homeless Night event

Community Service Program of the Year Award -- Awarded to the student club or academic organization that has made outstanding contributions to local, national or global communities through an organized service or civic engagement program.
• Sigma Alpha Pi (National Leadership Honor Society) for its Christmas at Park program

Club of the Year Award -- Awarded to the club that has made the greatest contributions to the Park community through organization, innovation and commitment to the club's purpose and activities.
• Association for Computer Machinery (small club — 10 members or less)
• People to People International (large club — 11 members or more)
