National Public Radio's "From the Top" performance featuring a 14-year-old student at Park University's Youth Conservatory for Music is set to air Sunday, Nov. 9.
The show with Youth Conservatory for Music student Alan Shi and three other young pianists was recorded July 15 at the Lied Center at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. The program will air from 9 to 10 a.m. Sunday on NPR.
"From the Top" is NPR's hit showcase for America's best young classical musicians and is hosted by acclaimed concert pianist Christopher O'Riley. The show also highlights the musicians' lives as regular teens through interviews and sketches.
Alan, who studies under Marina Sultanova, adjunct instructor of piano at Park, was among the musicians featured at the event presented by Kansas Public Radio and Park University. Shi, who lives with his family in Lawrence, received second place for the state of Missouri in the Music Teachers National Association's Baldwin Junior Piano Competition, and attended the International Institute for Young Musicians in 2006.
"From the Top" can be heard on KPR on Sundays from 9 to 10 a.m., as well as on more than 200 radio stations coast-to-coast and Online at http://fromthetop.npr.org. KPR can be heard in the Kansas City area on KANU 91.5 FM.
