October 21, 2009, 8:47 am Zaharopoulos participates as faculty reviewer for university in Cyprus Thimios Zaharopoulos, Ph.D., interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, traveled to Cyprus during Park University's fall break to serve as an external faculty reviewer for Open University of Cyprus, Nicosia. According to Zaharopoulos, public universities in Cyprus invite internationally known experts to serve on faculty search committees for new academic positions. Zaharopoulos' travel was underwritten by the Open University of Cyprus. October 21, 2009, 8:46 am Smith authors article for security publication Jeffrey Smith, adjunct instructor of information and computer science, recently had an article he authored published in the fall issue of The Security Journal. The article, "Management and Security Risks with Client-Server Software," identifies best practices in providing a basic roadmap for managers to ensure due diligence security in client-server software applications. According to Smith, the best practices and identification of early software vulnerabilities can contribute to successful business operations. Management holds key positional responsibility in asking questions concerning software application security and identification of software security issues early alerts key developmental personnel in pursuing an avenue for resolution. October 21, 2009, 8:46 am Sanders, Williams make presentations at biology educators conference October 21, 2009, 8:45 am Carol Sanders, Ph.D., and Don Williams, Ed.D., associate professors of biology, made presentations at the Association of College and University Biology Educators annual meeting in Kansas City, Mo., Oct. 9-10. Brackett represents State of Missouri at national book festival Virginia Brackett, Ph.D., Department of English and Modern Languages associate professor and chair, and director of Park's Honors Program, represented the State of Missouri at the Library of Congress National Book Festival, Sept. 26, in Washington, D.C. The festival, which Brackett attended as a member of the board of the Missouri Center for the Book, welcomed 130,000 attendees on the National Mall. It featured dozens of well-known authors and poets, including John Irving, Judy Blume and Ken Burns. Brackett is shown at right in the adjacent photo with Tom Dillingham, Ph.D., of Stephens College, and Anne-Imela M. Radice, director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
